Antelope Canyon is open year-round. Tours also available throughout the entire year. People always ask when is the best time to visit Antelope Canyon. The best time to visit Antelope Canyon is from April to October. The views are incredible year-round, and the most important thing is that you get to see it with your own eyes.


Average Temperature in Antelope Canyon


The hot season is from May to September. The hottest month is July, with an average low of 73℉ (22℃) high of 97℉ (36℃). During July and August, the temperature can reach to 110°F (43°C) as early as 11 AM each day. Antelope Canyon will probably be closed, for your safety, due to excessive heat.


Tips for the hot season:

  1. Book a morning tour. Morning hours can make your tour better in terms of temperature. If you visit the Lower Antelope Canyon, these morning tours are the best times for lighting.
  2. Bring your water bottle, sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen to protect against the sun.
  3. Know signs of dehydration.


The cool season is from late November to February. The coldest month is January with an average low of 30℉ (-1℃) high of 44℉ (6℃). In the winter, Antelope Canyon's temperature can drop below zero. Every winter, there will be snowstorms, and the stinging winds will make it feel considerably colder than the predicted low.


Both blessings and curses can come with snow in Antelope Canyon. A significant amount of snow will block the canyon, but a modest dusting will offer a layer of color for stunning photographs.


The majority of the two inches of snow that Antelope Canyon receives each year falls in December and January.


Tips for the cool season:

  1. Prior to your trip to Antelope Canyon(Upper Antelope Canyon or Lower Antelope Canyon), keep an eye on the weather reports.
  2. Bring your warm cloths, including hats, gloves, and jackets.
  3. Watch out for ice and snow on the roads.

There is a considerable potential that Antelope Canyon will close if there is a significant snowstorm in the area, so it is advised not to drive. 


If you're traveling over holidays, purchase your tickets early, as they will sell out quickly.
